The Board of Selectmen received a request from residents of Main Street to lower the current 35 MPH speed limit. After hearing testimony, the Board of Selectmen submitted an official request to MassDOT to review the existing regulatory speed limit of 35 MPH. On August 12th MassDOT provided their response to Kingston’s request. Based on the speed and accident history provided to MassDOT by the Kingston Police Department and Old Colony Planning Council, MassDOT has determined that “35 MPH is the appropriate regulatory speed limit on Main Street.”
The Board of Selectmen will discuss whether to remove the regulatory speed limit designation and adopt a statutory speed limit for Main Street at their August 23, 2022, meeting. Anyone interested in participating in the discussion is urged to attend. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm.
