Kingston Fire Department Press Release:
The Kingston Fire Department extends our gratitude to the Independence Mall / Pyramid Companies for the donation of a Husqvarna rotary rescue saw.
During a recent meeting with Independence Mall management to discuss the upcoming theatre reconstruction, the topic of our aged and unserviceable rescue saw arose.
Our early 1970's Homelite rotary saw had become outdated, unserviceable and in need of replacement. Hearing this, and with the upcoming construction in mind, the Independence Mall managers offered to help replace the saw.
Rotary Rescue saws serve multiple purposes. Equipped with various cutting blades they are capable of cutting through materials including steel, concrete, stone, and wood.
With these capabilities, the rotary saws are versatile and invaluable during rescue operations where it is necessary to cut through multiple materials to access and rescue trapped occupants. With the change of a blade, the saw can be converted from a masonry cutting saw to a wood cutting saw and be used for roof ventilation during firefighting operations. With another change, the saw can be cutting metal such as a pulldown gate or a garage door to access a fire in a commercial building.
This donation of $1600 has enabled the Fire Department to purchase necessary, versatile equipment that will last for many years to come.
Once again, thank you to the Independence Mall for their generous donation.
